The Times' latest update tonight states that the former Everton player has agreed a wage packet with the Championship club three times the size of his predecessor John Eustance, with hopes on making a quick announcement.

They reitterate that the Magpies are not the only Premier League team circling. Crystal Palace and Brighton are also listed as interested parties, whilst Everton's has been 'most prevalent' of any of the afforementioned sides.

Birmingham part ways with manager as Rooney linked to take over
Official word from Birmingham City is out, they've sacked manager John Eustace after 15 months in charge.
The club sit sixth in the Championship so it certainly wasn't going to be for performance reasons, instead the official statement hints that the higher-ups and the manager were not of the same mind about other matters.
As mentioned earlier the Times state that former Everton player Wayne Rooney is 'liked' by the Second City club. The last part of their message highlights how a successor is to be appointed 'in the coming days', and must have a 'no fear playing style'.

Beier interest
Everton are understood to be interested in signing Hoffenheim forward Maximilian Beier.
The 20-year-old has begun the Bundesliga season in hugely impressive fashion, scoring five times in his opening seven matches, and has now caught the attention of top clubs.
Everton, along with Brentford and Liverpool, have 'set their sights' on the youngster, according to Football Transfers.
The report adds Beier has a release clause worth €20million (£17m).

Harrison message
Jack Harrison has described representing Everton as an "honour" following his Man of the Match performance on Saturday afternoon.
The winger scored a goal and provided an assist as the Blues claimed a 3-0 victory over Bournemouth in impressive fashion.
Speaking after his eye-catching display, Harrison told evertontv: "You see how much it means to the fans when you’re working hard and for me, I’ve always said that’s the least you can do.
“I always try to replicate that. It’s an honour to be out there and to leave everything out there is what I always try to do. It’s nice that the Everton fans pick up on that.
“I’m building back my fitness now. I was a little bit tired towards the end, but I’ll always keep pushing myself to the limit, and it’s great to do that in front of fans that appreciate it.”

Rooney 'in running' for Birmingham job
Wayne Rooney is said to be 'in contention' to become the new manager of Birmingham City.
The former Everton forward recently left his post at MLS side DC United after reaching the end of their league season and is now open to other opportunities.
Current Birmingham boss John Eustace is not 'under threat' of losing his job at present, though the Times have stated Rooney is 'liked' by the Championship club and there is 'potential' for him to be appointed.

Harrison named in BBC Team of the Week
Jack Harrison has been recognised for his brilliant display during Saturday's win over Bournemouth by being named in Garth Crooks' BBC Team of the Week.
The English winger put Everton 2-0 up with a brilliant lobbed finish to beat Neto in goal and later teed up Abdoulaye Doucoure to score the Blues' third.
Explaining why Harrison has been included in his Team of the Week, Crooks wrote:
The goal by Jack Harrison was spectacular, but I can't understand why Bournemouth's goalkeeper Neto selected to punch the previous delivery into the box when it was infinitely easier to catch it.
By Neto keeping the ball alive it presented Harrison with the opportunity to score. Harrison is a good addition to the Everton squad, but having observed him when he played for Leeds I don't think 10 goals a season is too much to ask for a player of his ability.
Harrison is now amongst players and an Everton crowd that might bring the best out of him. After the debacle against Luton, Everton, and in particular Sean Dyche, desperately needed the victory.
Bournemouth, however, look a shambles and face Wolves after the international break. Gary O'Neil, their former boss, I am sure would take some satisfaction in reminding Bournemouth that his departure from the club might have been not merely a little premature but a shocking error of judgement. "

Blues on international duty
Another international break is here, ensuring Everton are now not in action until October 21.
A selection of first-team members will be in action for their country, with the rest of the squad enjoying a recovery period ahead of the Merseyside derby.
These are the Blues that will be in action over the coming days
- Jordan Pickford (England)
- Jarrad Branthwaite (England under-21s)
- Vitalii Mykolenko (Ukraine)
- Amadou Onana (Belgium)
- Nathan Patterson (Scotland)
- Idrissa Gueye (Senegal)

James Garner shares Sean Dyche dressing room message before vital Bournemouth victory
Speaking to the Echo after Saturday's 3-0 win over Bournemouth, James Garner is hoping Everton can kick on and climb up the Premier League.
We’ve been quite unfortunate this year, especially with our home form, where we should have won more games. Today was massive for us going forward. To finally get the win and score some goals was important.
There was no panic at all because we’ve been playing very well at home. If you watched those games, we created so many chances and so many big chances.
Hopefully today is when that changed. Personally, nobody likes losing, but there were positives in there. It was about time luck went our way.

Dele injury latest
Dele Alli has suffered a setback in his recovery from injury - but insists he is ready to come back "stronger than ever".
The 27-year-old hasn't played in the Premier League for the Blues since August 2022 before he joined Turkish giants Besiktas on a season-long loan, which was ended prematurely in April after he returned to England to undergo surgery on a groin issue.
On Friday, Dele took to Instagram to reveal he had suffered a setback in his rehabilitation but promised Everton supporters he would be back stronger, writing: "Setback with the injury, but making sure I come back stronger than ever! #iam>iwas."
After sealing a move to Goodison Park in January 2022, Everton face the prospect of having to pay the North Londoners a reported £10 million if the midfielder totals 20 Premier League games for the Blues. So far he has made 13.
Last month, though, manager Sean Dyche hinted that Everton could approach Tottenham in the hope of renegotiating a deal for Dele in the hope of making the deal work for all partiers.
“That will be sorted out in due course or whatever needs to be approached with his deal. He is not ready yet," Dyche told reporters. “When he is fit and well, I am sure Kev [Thelwell, director of football], rather than myself, will go to Tottenham and say: ‘Right, how can we make this work for everyone?’ It has never been at that stage, so we have to wait for it to get to that stage.”
