Alistair Johnston suffers Canada 'blunder' as Japanese fans take aim at Celtic defender for rough tackle that injured star

The young Hoops defender caught the racing away Japanese attacker with fans less than pleased

Alistair Johnston and Canada had a torrid time of it against Japan in international friendly action, with Samurai Blue fans not best pleased with the Celtic defender.

And it was a clash in Tokyo that had the Canadians fighting a losing battle after being 3-0 down at half time to Hajiyme Moriyasu's side, with the Hoops full back caught majorly for goal number three with Keito Nakamura robbing him inside his own half and sprinting on to score much to Johnston's dismay. But it was on the stroke of the hour mark that the 25-year-old attracted the ire of the Japan fans when put in a supposedly rough challenge on his adversary Nakamura.

Johnston was booked for his troubles and subsequently hooked with ten minutes to play as the game ended 4-1 to the home side. Some fans were fuming with the Hoops man as key star Nakamura was forced off with injury, being unable to continue and eventually replaced by Johnston's Parkhead team mate Reo Hatate. One fan wrote: "Despite being completely overtaken by Japanese representative Keito Nakamura, the Canadian representative intentionally grabbed him from behind and then stomped on his ankle, injuring him."

A clip shared to social media shows the fullback making contact with Nakamura's ankle, with the Japanese man stretchered off.

Kyogo also made an appearance for his country off the bench, with Motherwell's Harry Paton got some minutes under his belt for Canada.
