Kevin Muscat unmoved as Rangers manager target clue hiding in plain sight before Yokohama crunch

Muscat and Philippe Clement are facing a straight shoot-out to decide who will lead the Ibrox club.

Kevin Muscat in Yokohama F Marinos training

Yokohama F Marinos boss Kevin Muscat appears to be in no rush to jet off to Glasgow to take the Rangers job as the Ibrox search enters the final stages.

The former Ibrox midfielder looks to be in a straight shoot-out to take over from Michael Beale with Philippe Clement as Rangers chief executive James Bisgrove and the board weigh up their next move with the restart of the Scottish Premiership campaign just around the corner. Fans are keen to see the next man in the dugout for the clash with Hibs on October 21 following Scotland's international fixtures.

But if Muscat is the man to be handed the top job in Govan he appears to be keeping his focus in Yokohama with his side preparing to face Urawa Red Diamonds in the second leg of their J-League Cup semi-final clash - with the current Japanese champions taking a 1-0 lead into the clash. Muscat has previously stated his focus is winning silverware in Japan amid swirling rumours about Rangers.

And he was spotted in footage shared by his current club in a brief cameo during training with the Marinos. It hints that he will be leading the side against Urawa as he took the side.

Record Sport understands that Rangers chairman John Bennett and chief executive James Bisgrove will not be rushed into naming their man. Contenders Clement and Muscat expect to know the outcome one way or another before Monday morning.
