Algeria coach squares up to West Ham’s Said Benrahma for handshake snub in furious confrontation

Said Benrahma received a nasty shock when he snubbed his Algeria coach while on international duty.

The West Ham winger started the friendly against Egypt in the UAE but was withdrawn in the 63rd minute straight after going 1-0 down to Hamdi Fathy.

With Algeria not on their best run of form before their World Cup qualifying campaign begins in November, tensions were seemingly high on the touchline.

So when Benrahma snubbed his manager Djamel Belmadi, things boiled over.

The former Marseille midfielder appeared to raise his left hand to pat Benrahma on the back as he walked past him off the pitch, but with his right unreciprocated, he used it to grab the winger's shirt.

Benrahma was then squared up to by his coach, which certainly got his attention and appeared to put him in his place.

Reacting to the incident post-match, Belmadi said, via footmercato: “What happened with Benrahma are things that happen, locker room things.

“He came off, he wasn’t happy, I wasn’t happy, that’s all!”

A goal down and a man up thanks to a red card for Mohamed Hany, Algeria eventually got something from the game via a stoppage time equaliser from former Leicester striker Islam Slimani.
