Barcelona are ‘seriously concerned’ over Clement Lenglet’s situation at Aston Villa, according to reports in Spain.

The French international joined the club on a season-long loan on deadline day as Unai Emery completed his transfer business for the summer. Lenglet arrived at the club following a long-term injury to centre-back Tyrone Mings.

The 28-year-old is yet to make a Premier League appearance for the club. His three games in a Villa shirt have come in the Europa Conference League, playing against Legia Warsaw, Zrinjski Mostar and AZ Alkmaar.

According to Spanish outlet Sport Barcelona are getting ‘seriously concerned’ over the lack of game time for the defender. The Spanish giants are said to have sanctioned the loan hoping that Lenglet would have a similar role at Villa to that he had at Spurs last season, where he was one of the first choice centre-backs.

It is said that Barcelona are concerned that not playing will see the player lose value. While talks are not believed to have taken place over cutting his Villa loan short, there could be in the future in the situation continues.

The claim comes a month after the same outlet reported that ‘nobody remembers’ the player at Barcelona. The club were said to be ‘desperate’ to get the defender off their books before the summer deadline.

Lenglet could have another chance to impress Emery and push to be a regular starter when Villa are back in Europa League action on Thursday. They take on Dutch side AZ Alkmaar at Villa Park.

They return to Premier League action the following Sunday when they face Fulham at home. Emery’s side will be looking to bounce back from a 2-0 defeat against Forest in their last outing.
