Newcastle United skipper Jamaal Lascelles outlines Champions League battle plan for Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund were battered 4-0 by their fierce rivals Bayern Munich on Saturday night and Jamaal Lascelles wants to take full advantage of that

Newcastle United skipper Jamaal Lascelles is under no illusions ahead of the Magpies' Group F Champions League mission in Germany this week. Having led the group after a tremendous win over Paris St-Germain, the 1-0 defeat to Borussia Dortmund puts Newcastle on a knife edge in the Champions League with the Bundesliga team ahead of them on the head to head.

Defeat in Germany would make life extremely difficult for Newcastle to qualify for the next 16 and even a draw leaves Dortmund in the driving seat. Therefore to wrestle a positive situation back into Newcastle hands, it is a win that will be required at Signal Iduna Park on Tuesday night.

Lascelles told Chronicle Live: "We want to go there and win. We’ve got to play the game, not the occasion.

"It’s going to be a slightly different test to what we are all used to. Not many are used to playing away in Europe but we’re all looking forward to it."

Around 3,900 Newcastle fans will take their place at Dortmund's prestige venue in front of the famous Yellow Wall. And Newcastle fans will be eager to get behind the Magpies as their team face up to the Dortmund noise and electric atmosphere.

Lascelles said: "They are a help every game, home and away. We’re just looking forward to it."
