Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in securing a reunion with Sporting Lisbon winger Marcus Edwards.

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly identified former player Marcus Edwards as a potential transfer target for 2024.

Edwards came through the academy system at the North Londoners and was expected to eventually become a permanent member of the first-team squad.

However, the winger would be restricted to just one outing in a League Cup fixture, before he would later make just one appearance in a loan stint with Norwich City in the Championship.

The former England Under-20 international has since rebuilt his career abroad, initially in the Netherlands with Excelsior before becoming a star man at Portuguese outfit Vitoria de Guimaraes.

Contributing 20 goals and 14 assists from 96 outings in all competitions led to a switch to Sporting in a deal worth in the region of €8m in January 2022, and Edwards has only continued to enhance his stock.

Eighteen strikes and 20 assists have been recorded in 80 appearances, and the 24-year-old is an important figure in a team that currently top the Primeira Liga standings.

Nevertheless, the playmaker has regularly been linked with a return to English football, and it appears that his boyhood club are giving consideration to a reunion.

According to Correio de Manha, Spurs may look to take advantage of the terms that are present in Edwards's contract.

With Sporting only owning a percentage of Edwards's economic rights, the other portion belonging to Vitoria, Spurs still have rights when it comes to future fees and buy-back clauses.

Although Edwards is said to have a £52m release clause in his contract, the report claims that Spurs can re-sign him for 65% of that fee, which would be approximately £34m.

Chairman Daniel Levy is allegedly open to taking such a route to further boost the club's options in the final third, either in January or next summer.

Edwards possesses a contract until the end of 2025-26 and it is currently unclear whether he would consider a renewal given the level of interest in his signature.

While he is capable of being deployed in a number of roles, Spurs already have James Maddison, Manor Solomon, Dejan Kulusevski, Brennan Johnson, Richarlison and Bryan Gil who are options in the final third behind Son Heung-min.
