Luton Town manager Rob Edwards has warned Tahith Chong and Teden Mengi not to 'do anything special' just because they are facing their former club Manchester United this weekend.

Chong joined United as a teenager and progressed to make 16 senior appearances for the first-team, but he failed to consolidate a regular starting role and he joined Birmingham City on a permanent transfer in September 2022

The 23-year-old impressed during that season in the Championship and Luton signed him in the summer after their promotion to the Premier League before later signing his fellow United academy graduate Mengi.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer handed Mengi his senior debut in the Europa League in August 2020 and United club sources noted the hard work Mengi put in to prepare for a move to Luton following a period with injuries.

Mengi is now enjoying life in the Premier League alongside Chong and the pair are in contention to play against United at Old Trafford on Saturday, something which Edwards discussed at his press conference.

"We've got them at our football now," Edwards said when asked about Mengi and Chong returning to United.

"Their history is their history and they had amazing upbringings at Manchester United. They've worked with some fantastic coaches and brilliant players and we're hopefully now going to see their best years with us.

"I'm sure they're both looking forward to it. We're trying to make it too much of an emotional occasion, they don't have to do anything they haven't been doing before. They've been great for us.

"They're brilliant people and they've had a positive impact for us, so the big message from me is don't do anything special just because it's Manchester United and your former club.

"I know it's a big occasion for them, but go enjoy it and keep doing what they've been doing."

Mengi and Chong both started against Liverpool in Luton's most recent match and the latter scored.
