Rangers legend Allan McGregor breaks social media silence to hail Scots sporting icon’s ‘brilliant’ gesture

The sporting great's unique tribute went down a storm with McGregor and fans before he suffered a tricky night

IT'S been almost six months since Allan McGregor's second spell at Rangers came to an end.

And other than his testimonial appearance, not much has been heard from the Ibrox goalkeeping icon.

McGregor, 41, was one of several high profile departures from Rangers at the end of last season.

The shot stopper was given an emotional farewell alongside the likes of Alfredo Morelos, Ryan Kent and Scott Arfield.

But while that trio have all found new clubs, little has been heard from McGregor.

The veteran keeper was given a testimonial in pre-season and featured in the match with Premier League giants Newcastle.

But other than that, McGregor has kept a low profile.

Although he hasn't signed for another club following his exit from the Light Blues, McGregor hasn't actually officially retired from football either.

Little has been heard from him, but he's now broken his social media silence.

Having last posted back in July to thank Rangers fans for selling out his testimonial, McGregor has returned to Instagram this weekend.

He posted a picture on Armistice Day alongside a 'lest we forget' comment before posting again later in the day to praise darts ace Peter Wright's gesture.

The Livingston-born world champion is currently playing in the Grand Slam of Darts, one of the premier events on the PDC calendar.

But his group campaign got off a nightmare start as he was handed a shock 5-1 thumping defeat by American Stowe Buntz in his first match.

Wright, known for his flamboyant hair styles and dress sense, took the opportunity to pay a unique tribute on remembrance weekend.

Alongside his trademark mohawk, Wright regular paints the sides of his head in colourful patterns.

But on this weekend, Wright had striking poppies painted on.

He was also wearing a special shirt decorated with poppies.

And it caught the attention of Gers great McGregor, who posted a picture of Wright's look on Instagram.

McGregor commented: "Brilliant from @peter_snakebite_wright. We will remember."

Fans were also loving Wright's unique tribute.

One said: "Amazing! Respect."
