Watch the moment former Newcastle midfielder Jonjo Shelvey scores from his own half

The former Magpies midfielder scored a wonder goal this weekend

Former Newcastle United midfielder Jonjo Shelvey has followed in the footsteps of fellow Englishman abroad. Harry Kane, by scoring a wonder goal from his own half. The ex-Magpies channelled his inner David Beckham and put his Turkish side Rizespor a goal to the good in just the fifth minute of the game.

The 31-year-old tried his luck from the centre circle in his own half after spotting Istanbulspor goalkeeper David Jensen off his line. The ball sailed over the shot stopper into the back of the net and was the only goal of the game.

The strike was Shelvey's first goal for the Super Lig club after completing his move from Nottingham Forest in September and it was a goal worthy of winning any game. Fellow Englishman Kane scored a similar goal for his new club Bayern Munich against Darmstadt as the Bundesliga side ran out 8-0 winners with the former Spurs striker bagging a hat-trick.

The wondergoal has also been compared to David Beckham's screamer for Manchester United from the halfway line against Wimbledon on the opening day of the 1996-1997 season.

Former Magpies midfielder, Shelvey, made the loan move to Rizespor after a falling out with Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper. He spent just eight months at the City Ground after joining the Trick Trees from Newcastle in the January transfer window.

His new side Rizespor are currently midtable in the Super Lig after an inconsistent start to the season.
