Odsonne Edouard on his lingering Celtic transfer 'disappointment' as unseen Ibrahimovic and Cavani influence revealed
The striker left Celtic Park behind in 2021 for a move to the English Premier League side Crystal Palace.
Striker Odsonne Edouard admitted his move to Celtic was tinged with "disappointment" after he was forced out of the door by money-spinning signings at Paris Saint-Germain.
The Frenchman was a record signing for Celtic when he joined in a £9million deal from the Ligue 1 giants in the summer of 2021 following a successful initial loan spell, and stayed for three years before signing for Crystal Palace for £4million more than the Scottish Premiership giants paid for him. Since leaving Parkhead, Edouard has netted 25 goals for the Eagles with the club cementing themselves as English Premier League stalwarts.
And despite his move to Celtic offering the platform to move to the English top flight, the 25-year-old admits he was left frustrated that he could not break into the first-team plans at his boyhood club PSG. With the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Edinson Cavani on the books, he was told by bosses Unai Emery and Thomas Tuchel that he would be surplus to requirements.
Reflecting on the end of his PSG career to the club website, Edouard said: "I joined Toulouse FC on loan. I felt the need to quickly acquire professional playing time, especially in Ligue 1.
"At that time, it was very complicated to establish myself on the Paris Saint-Germain attack front. Zlatan Ibrahimovic then Edinson Cavani piled up the goals! When I returned to the club, the coach told me that he was not counting on me because he had recruited Hatem Ben Arfa and Jesé in attack, more experienced players. So I decided to try my luck elsewhere, which is how I signed for Celtic FC.
"It's more of a disappointment than a regret, because I would have loved to step onto the pitch at the Parc des Princes with the red and blue jersey. Everyone makes their own way depending on the context of the moment!"
