Neil Lennon is next Ireland manager favourite with FAI expected to axe Stephen Kenny

Lennon has also been linked with the vacancy at Ross County following Malky Mackay's sacking.

The bookies have installed Neil Lennon as the favourite to become the Republic of Ireland's next manager.

A disastrous Euro 2024 qualifying campaign under Stephen Kenny has seen the Boys in Green take just six points from seven Group B matches, both won against minnows Gibraltar. While they were handed a tough draw alongside World Cup runners up France and the Netherlands, better was expected from Kenny's side and the FAI are expected to part company with the boss when the current campaign comes to an end.

Attention will then turn to his successor, and Paddy Power have installed former Celtic manager Lennon as the favourite to take the reins. He's also been linked with the vacancy at Ross County after Malky Mackay was sacked by the struggling Staggies on Wednesday. However, the chance to make the step into international management would likely appeal far more than a relegation dogfight in the Highlands.

This isn't the first time Lennon's name has been put in the frame. He was touted as a replacement for his former Parkhead gaffer Martin O'Neill back in 2018 while the former Leicester star was still in charge of Hibs.

He said at the time: "Look it is just speculation. I am flattered if there is a link but I have not seen anything or heard anything regarding myself," Lennon said ahead of Saturday's visit of Dundee.

"All I have been doing is concentrating on us getting back into form because that is important."
