Richard Arnold hosted crucial Man Utd staff meeting – and his back wall was ridiculous

Manchester United CEO, who is set to leave the club as Sir Jim Ratcliffe's arrival is imminent, once hosted a 'crucial meeting' with a ridiculous back wall.

Arnold replaced Ed Woodward in February 2022, and he will provide "transitional support" until the end of December. Arnold will then be replaced by Patrick Stewart will take over as chief executive on an interim basis.


And Arnold's writing was on the wall, literally, when he hosted a crucial staff meeting with framed rugby union shirts in the background - in some people's eyes suggesting where his real passions lay. "It has been an incredible privilege to serve this great football club for the past 16 years," said Arnold, 52, as he revealed his departure.

Arnold oversaw United's significant sponsorship agreements with Adidas and Qualcomm, but was criticised for his handling of the situation surrounding forward Mason Greenwood.

Arnold isn't the only figure set to leave United as the Ratcliffe over haul begins, with John Murtough also on his way out of the door at Old Trafford.

Along with fellow INEOS director and former British Cycling chief Sir Dave Brailsford, Ratcliffe is keen to establish why United have been malfunctioning in recent years.

Ratcliffe is poised to complete a deal that will see him buy 25% of the club for £1.4billion. He will oversee the football side of the business – and he is now calling the shots.
