England pay emotional tribute to Sir Bobby Charlton ahead of Malta clash at Wembley with stunning fan display

England paid an emotional tribute to Sir Bobby Charlton as fans and players alike said goodbye to an all-time great.
The Manchester United and Three Lions legend sadly passed away last month at the age of 86.
Charlton is one of the most iconic figures in world football and it was only right that English football would pay their respects to the sporting legend ahead of their Euro 2024 qualifier with Malta at Wembley Stadium.
As well as producing a matchday programme with a tribute to Charlton, fans in attendance were responsible for an emotional tribute in the stands.
With the lights dimmed at Wembley, supporters held up cards that formed the name 'Sir Bobby' down one side of the hallowed turf, while fans behind the goal held up red and white cards to form the England flag.
Along with this, everyone in attendance stood and applauded in an emotional tribute to the great.
MORE ON SIR BOBBY CHARLTON
Charlton became a true national icon for his role in helping England win the 1966 World Cup, scoring key goals en route to the final where they beat West Germany.
That same year he was awarded the Ballon d'Or - recognising him as the finest player in Europe.
He racked up 106 caps for England, scoring 49 times - a record that Wayne Rooney eventually took from him.
However Charlton will always be remembered as arguably the greatest player ever to represent the Three Lions.
