Celtic star Hyeon-gyu Oh has told Brendan Rodgers he is ready to become a regular starter for the Hoops and provide competition for main man Kyogo Furuhashi.

The South Korean has mainly been deployed off the bench for Celtic this season with Kyogo the preferred option to lead the line - with Rodgers already admitting he will be looking to add more firepower in the January window with both of his current options likely to head off to the Asian Cup early next year. But before then, Oh is keen to prove he can be the man to lead the line for Celtic long-term having shaken off injury problems from early in the campaign.

Speaking ahead of Tuesday's international showdown with China, Oh was asked about his aspirations for the remainder of the season at Parkhead. He told Korean outlet Sporting News: "I'm in good shape now after my injury. I'm ready for anything. I'm confident in both substitute and starter roles."

It comes after Oh was left frustrated after failing to get on the scoresheet during South Korea's 5-0 rout of Singapore after climbing off the bench. In a brutally honest post-match debrief, the frontman was critical of his own display for Jurgen Klinsmann's side as he looks for his first goal for his country.

He said: "It's really disappointing. I still haven't scored a goal for the national team. I don't know if it's my energy, but it's unfortunate.

"As a striker, it's natural to be hungry and wait (for the ball). I kept moving, thinking that one in 10 times it would come to me (a goal chance). I think I need to make sure I score goals as quickly as possible. It's not easy to get one.

"The coach trusts me and puts me on the field, so it's natural for me to want to repay him with goals as a striker. A striker needs to score goals."
