Liverpool midfielder Stefan Bajcetic has provided an update on his recovery from injury.

The teenager enjoyed a breakthrough campaign for Jurgen Klopp’s side last term, becoming a standout star for the Reds. Bajcetic made 19 appearances for Liverpool across all competitions before seeing his campaign cut short by an adductor injury in March.

After a spell on the sidelines, the midfielder returned to full fitness at the start of the new season and made two appearances as a right-back in September. However, Bajcetic then suffered a fresh injury setback, which has seen him miss out on Liverpool’s strong start to the season.

In an interview with the club website, Bajcetic has explained the difficulties that come from watching his team-mates train out on the grass, while he works in the gym toward a full recovery.

"You can't stop thinking of what I would have done in that moment, I could obviously be doing that," Bajcetic said. "So it's obviously tough. It's just getting to the gym and counting the days to going back."

Having taken the decision to join the Reds as a 16-year-old from Spain, Bajcetic has already demonstrated that he has a strong mentality. However, the young midfielder admitted to having a sense of denial when it came to his injury last season, despite experiencing a similar adductor issue earlier in his career, because of the success he was enjoying in the Liverpool side.

"Because I had the same injury before but in the other side, when I was getting the pain, I kind of thought about that, it was going to be the same," he explained. "But in my mind it was like, 'it can't be the same, I need to keep playing'.

"But I did a scan. Scans are very cruel – they always show something. I remember I was at home, they rang me and they told me, 'you have a stress response'. Obviously it was a tough moment but I kind of took it well, I think. I took it as an opportunity to get stronger, improve in some bits. I just tried to stay positive mentally."
