Southampton icon Matt Le Tissier sensationally claimed that there's been a "500% rise" in the collapse of footballers.

The Premier League legend is among the greatest players England has ever produced but has stunned the public in recent years with his outbursts around the Coronavirus during the pandemic. The 55-year-old, who was sacked by Sky Sports in 2020 after 15 years of working on Soccer Saturday, called PCR tests 'the biggest fraud ever perpetrated on mankind'.

He's since had a lack of TV opportunities since he began spouting Covid conspiracy theories which has been slammed by wider society. During an episode on the Conversations with David Cotterill podcast, the Guernsey native was asked by Cotterill: "Do you know the rise in percentage wise of what the difference is of players collapsing?"

Le Tissier responded: "I think I saw one study that put it about 500% rise" which was quickly subject to ridicule on social media as fans rubbished his claims and claimed he plucked the figure out of thin air. One X user wrote: "Er I think I’ve seen somewhere, something on something, somewhere that says 500 percent, aye let’s go with that" while another commented: "Look studies and numbers can be manipulated. Yes mate you've just invented both".

A third suggested the Southampton legend isn't convinced by what he's saying with their comment reading: "Le Tiss doesn't even believe it as he says it. Look at him crossing arms as he goes 'err I think, errr'," while a fourth called the ex-footballers: "A pair of shameless embarrassing clowns these two are!!!!"

Le Tissier has admitted that he believes his outlandish views played a part in his sacking from Sky as well as his omission from the Premier League of Hall of Fame during an interview with the i paper. "I’m pretty certain I’ll never get in the Premier League Hall of Fame and I’m OK with that,” he said.

"I’m already in the National Football Museum Hall of Fame. That kind of goes back to the start of football, the 1800s, so that is a far bigger honour than getting into a hall of fame for a league that started 30 years ago."
