Manchester City suffered a shock penalty shoot-out defeat to Leicester City in the group stages of the Women's League Cup. Laura Coombs' second-half equaliser had sent the game to spot-kicks after the hosts found themselves 2-0 down, before substitute Jana Leitzig made herself a hero for the Foxes is the shootout. Elsewhere, Manchester United won at Liverpool and Aston Villa thrashed Blackburn.

Jana Leitzig came off the bench in the 93rd minute to help Leicester defeat Manchester City 4-3 on penalties in the group stages of the League Cup.
The goalkeeper was brought on as the clash headed to a penalty shoot-out, and then saved Steph Houghton's spot-kick to earn the Foxes the victory after the sides played out a 2-2 draw.
Willie Kirk's side were on course to win the clash in normal time after Janice Cayman and Sophie Howard netted within the space of four minutes to hand the visitors a 2-0 lead just before half-time.
However, City manager Gareth Taylor called for the cavalry after the break, paving the way for Deyna Castellanos and Laura Coombes level the scores.
That sent the game to penalties, and after both sides had missed two of their first five spot-kicks, Howard converted during sudden death, before Leitzig denied Houghton to earn Leicester an extra point that keeps them in third place in Group B.
In the same group, Nikita Parris was Manchester United's hero as they beat Liverpool 1-0 at Prenton Park in a repeat of the league meeting between the two teams in May.
Ireland international Niamh Fahey made her first appearance of the season following a calf injury, but she couldn't help Matt Beard's side to victory.
There were no such problems for Aston Villa though, who dished out a 7-0 battering to Championship outfit Blackburn.
Lionesses hero Rachel Daly was among the scorers for Carla Ward's outfit as they moved top of Group A, but it was not such a good night for Bristol City, who've become the first team to be eliminated from the competition after losing 3-0 to Tottenham.
That game was in Group D, while in Group E, Charlton beat fellow second tier side Birmingham 1-0 thanks to Tegan McGowan's strike and Brighton eased to a 3-1 victory over West Ham in an all-WSL clash.
There were two further fixtures in Group C, where Kate Mooney's own goal earned London City Lionesses a 1-0 victory at Lewes, meaning they're in joint-top spot with four points, alongside Crystal Palace, who defeated Watford 3-0.
