Jamaal Lascelles explains bizarre substitution as he ends Chelsea win wearing wrong boots
Newcastle United skipper Jamaal Lascelles was one of the stars of the show but reflected on the strange reason he was taken off
Jamaal Lascelles has declared himself fit for Newcastle United's trip to Paris St-Germain - despite hobbling off in the closing stages during the 4-1 win over Chelsea.
However, Lascelles has cleared up the reason why after his studs snapped during the encounter with the Blues and he was forced to wear odd boots! The club captain joked that he would require a dash to the Metro Centre to buy new boots before taking on Kylian Mbappe and co in France on Tuesday.
Lascelles told reporters after the game: "I am fine. My studs actually snapped and I had not worn them before. I actually had a size 9 on one foot and size 11 on the other! "I was all over the gaff! I might have to pop down to the Metro Centre and get myself some new boots!"

The win puts Newcastle back in the top six of the Premier League and ensured they bounced back from the poor 2-0 defeat away to AFC Bournemouth before the international break. Lascelles has enjoyed a good season so far after coming into the team following Sven Botman's injury but knew this was a big moment in the campaign.
The centre-back reflected: "We knew it would be a tough game, they have some world class individuals in their team. We were the much better team on the day.
"The timing of the goals we scored dented their confidence. Especially at the start of the second half."
It was Lascelles who put Newcastle in control at 2-1 against Chelsea with the ex-Nottingham Forest star admitting the goal was a turning point for him and the team. The defender was honest enough to admit he was not playing well until he headed home past Robert Sanchez.
Lascelles added: "It meant a lot because I was not having the best of games. I was struggling a bit with my boots.
"But I was pleased to score and I do think that was the slight turning point in terms of momentum. It was a great attitude shown by the boys, we were quite comfortable in the end.
"We'd earlier let them get into the game. It was a challenge but we reacted well and the gaffer told us what for at half-time. We came out and got the job done so we are pleased but now we move on."
