David Ginola reckons that Paris St-Germain have learned their lesson after losing heavily to Newcastle United in the Champions League.

The Newcastle and PSG icon will once again be one of the stars in the pre-match spotlight here in Paris as his two old clubs lock horns in Group F. Defeat means Newcastle are out of the competition with a game to spare with a victory badly needed for Eddie Howe's team want to reach the last 16.

United will arrive in Paris in a depleted state with 12 absentees on the list and Howe's team ravaged by injury, ineligibility and suspension. Ginola feels that PSG will be waiting for the Magpies and are keen to put things right from the first leg.

Ginola said: "The Parisians know this Newcastle team. They know how they play, they're a hard-working team and it was complicated in the first leg.

"But technically, Paris Saint-Germain have what it takes to beat Newcastle. Now we need the fans to be there, as they always have been during the great moments.

"But for this match, we're going to ask them to be even more present because it's an important game. It's important for Paris to win against Newcastle, even though that's difficult for me to say as I also played there.

"I think Paris have the weapons, now a football club is a team, they have a public, staff, and people who gravitate to the club... and for me, it's a combination of things that means that if we manage to create unity in this match, then it will be a pleasure for everyone: in the stands as well as on the pitch."

L'Equipe pay Magpies compliment ahead of encounter at Parc des Princes

The French daily sports paper had a keen eye on Newcastle's 4-1 win over Chelsea at the weekend and underlined United's clinical edge in the big game. It was not lost on L'Equipe that Newcastle created just five shots on target and netted with four of them.

This morning's report reads: "This is called being efficient. It allows them to restore confidence with a view to a crucial trip for their European future."

But the local media felt that there were cracks to expose in Howe's defence, they also added: "The content of the match is not entirely reassuring for the Magpies, who struggled for a long time in the game, before finally making the most of their rare opportunities."

Key PSG star missing for Group F encounter

PSG have confirmed that Marquinhos will not be involved against Newcastle after the Brazil international picked up a hamstring injury over the international break. It means there will be no reunion with Joelinton and Bruno Guimaraes.

And for all Newcastle's problems with injuries, the 6ft midfielder won't be able to take any personal revenge on the Magpies.
