Newcastle United links with Brazilian star crank up a notch

Newcastle United have been repeatedly linked with a move for rising star Marcos Leonardo from Santos. Real Madrid and the Toon are said to be at the front of the queue to sign the 20-year-old who has scored 21 goals and registered four assists from 46 games this year.

Lance! has reiterated that Newcastle are one of the clubs keen on signing the young forward in January. Last week, Leonardo's agent had said it was the right time to leave Brazil and talks had begun with Santos regarding a move, said to be in the region of €18million.

Football finance expert says Premier League is fractured after vote on party-related deals

Football finance expert Kieran Maguire says the Premier League is fractured following a vote to ban party-related deals last week. The vote, which did not pass the majority needed, was to ban loans between clubs with the same owners - after Newcastle United were linked with Ruben Neves of Al-Ahli.

“It was interesting to see some of the other clubs that voted to block this proposal. I think it’s also interesting that this is one of the first times ever that a proposal from the Premier League itself has effectively been rejected through voting.

“The Premier League is fractured and less united than ever before. I think that is the case, and it reflects the fact that you’ve got different owners with different aims and objectives all trying to work within the same framework.“
