Barry Robson claims Aberdeen performance the BEST of his tenure despite costly Hibs defeat

The Aberdeen manager was left reeling after his side notched up a remarkable 24 shots at Easter Road, but couldn't find the breakthrough

Barry Robson claimed the defeat to Hibs was the best Aberdeen had played in his time as manager.

The frustrated Dons boss insisted the only difference was Bojan Miovski and his misfiring team-mates failed to take their chances at Easter Road. Top scorer Miovski is normally Aberdeen’s go-to man for goals but he missed a penalty and hit the woodwork twice while also being denied by man of the match David Marshall on numerous other occasions.

Robson said: “He (Miovski) has scored 11 goals and he is still in there. He had three one-on-ones, maybe more and missed a penalty. We stick with him. He is a great kid. If he takes his chances we win the game comfortably but he never and we need to accept that. It’s a big game against Killie now and we need to try to put on a good performance like we did here. That's the best we’ve played since I have been in the job.

“I know people will say we lost the game, I get that but if we are going to come to Hibs away and have 24 shots and dominate the whole game then we are doing something right. I have to give my players credit for that but I know we need to win games.”

Robson didn’t think the result told the full story of the 90 minutes, which Hibs won thanks to goals from Dylan Vente and Will Fish. The Aberdeen boss claimed: “I am disappointed. I think the first goal, we have made a mistake. It is a mistake from their goalkeeper, he has shanked it and big Rubi has got a bit close.

“Boyle has ended up getting through and we lost a set play in the second half, which we have been so good at recently. It is the first we have lost in a while.”

Slobodan Rubezic made another mistake for the opening goal and it comes off the back of a similar error against HJK. Robson insisted: “We all make mistakes, players do. You can see he has made a couple of mistakes but you have to support him and back him.

“The one thing for me, if you watch our games, we haven’t got what we have deserved this season. There have been games where we need to be better but 24 shots and so we are frustrated.”

Robson is adamant Aberdeen will win more games than they lose if they continue to play like they did - with David Marshall picking up the man of the match award for his heroics. “We were all here today and all saw it,’ Robson insisted. “We all saw that we are by far the better team in the game.

“Everybody knows that but Hibs come away with the points. That is the important thing coming away with the points. We can sit here and talk about all the chances, missing penalties and goals to sucker punches but that is it. Football is about winning matches and we need to win some matches. If we perform like that we will win matches.”

Aberdeen are now playing catch-up in the race for third, with Hearts 10 points clear having played a game extra, and Robson is well aware of the need to start putting points on the board. “We understand that we need to get the points and to catch up,” the Dons boss admitted.

“We also have a couple of games to catch up on but there is never an easy game in the Premiership. If they are going to give us that type of performance then we will win games.”
