John Eustace tipped for Sunderland job after Birmingham City exit
Latest Birmingham City news from BirminghamLive includes odds on John Eustace becoming the next Sunderland manager
John Eustace is the early favourite for the Sunderland job after Tony Mowbray’s departure on Monday evening.
Mowbray has lost his job at the Stadium of Light after a run of two wins in nine games. A 1-1 draw at Millwall on Saturday was the final straw for Mowbray and Sunderland are now searching for his replacement.
The Black Cats’ sporting director Kristjaan Speakman, formerly Blues’ academy chief, commented: “After arriving at an uncertain time, he helped guide us to the Sky Bet Championship play-offs and played an important role in developing our team. This was a difficult decision to make, but we remain loyal to our ambition and our strategy, and felt that now was the right moment to take this step.
“We are now focused on identifying the right candidate and we will continue to support our coaching team and players throughout the interim period.”

Eustace, who was sacked by Birmingham City and replaced by Wayne Rooney in early October, is the favourite for the job at 5/1 according to OLBG. Nathan Jones and the vastly experienced Neil Warnock are priced at 6/1.
Ex-Blues boss Eustace has been linked with a number of jobs since his St Andrew’s departure two months ago. Former Blues academy coach Mike Dodds will lead Sunderland's first team until a successor to Mowbray is appointed.
