Celtic transfer news latest as Sydney van Hooijdonk opens Bologna exit door and Edouard plots next move
The Hoops are set to hunt for quality in January and the Dutchman is one they are claimed to want.
Sydney van Hooijdonk has welcomed the possibility of a January transfer as rumours of a Celtic move to continue to swirl.
The Dutchman has not had a happy first half of the season at Bologna and is playing second fiddle to number one frontman Joshua Zirkzee. He's scored once in just seven outings this term, totalling 189 minutes across all competitions. Brendan Rodgers has been linked with making a move for the son of Celtic hero Pierre ahead of an Asian Cup headache in the form of senior strikers Kyogo and Oh heading for the major tournament.
Tuttomercato claim that Bologna are already hunting more firepower in the form of AZ Alkmaar's Vangelis Pavlidis. And it is stated "Sydney van Hooijdonk has expressed his intention to leave in January" amid the hunt for a new forward man. It is caveated though that the hunt for the Greek hitman may not be straight forward.
"Pavlidis is not economically easy to reach" with AZ's price-tag ranging between £12.8m and £17.1m. A swap deal has also been mooted as a possible solution and report goes as far to say it "would probably be the simplest solution, but then you will need to deal with any compensation."
While Italian joy has been hard to find for van Hooijdonk, Premiership champions Celtic will hope to get more of the man who found the net with ease in Holland. He netted 23 times in 70 games for NAC Breda and an impressive 26 strikes from 54 outings at Heerenveen displays his marksman potential.
Meanwhile, Odsonne Edouard has reflected on his Celtic stint as he ponders what could come next from him. He moved to Parkhead from PSG during Brendan Rodgers' first stint and is now with Crystal Palace, and has the intention to remain a Premier League player.
He told Foot Mercato: "Scotland compared to PSG was different. It’s a big club that needed a striker at that time. They gave me the chance to express myself, to have playing time. Obviously when you have playing time, you can show your qualities, show what you can do.
"And it worked out quite well for me since I managed to score goal after goal, to string together matches and to find a certain stability. This is what allowed me to express my talent and score goals. From the moment I signed for Scotland my end goal was the Premier League. I worked very hard while trying to perform as much as possible to one day reach my dream which was the Premier League. In 2021 I had the opportunity to join Crystal Palace and I jumped at the chance.
"Already, my goal is to finish the season with as many goals as possible in the Premier League. I want to make a mark every weekend before why not hope for a new challenge by knocking on the doors of the biggest European clubs. At the moment, I'm in the Premier League, I like life in England, I like the championship. The ideal goal is to stay in the Premier League.
"But I am an open person. I've already moved around quite a bit since the start of my career. Afterwards, my goal is really to reach the biggest European clubs. And that means scoring a lot of goals and performing well every weekend. Achieving good performances with Crystal Palace in short."
