Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has been asking friends about new Liverpool signing who has 'taken over his role'
Former Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has praised Dominik Szoboszlai, who was signed by the Reds in the summer
Former Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has given a glowing verdict of new Reds midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai.
Oxlade-Chamberlain signed for Turkish giants Besiktas after reaching the end of his contract in the summer, bringing an end to his six-year stint at Anfield. The 30-year-old’s departure was part of a wider overhaul, which saw Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, Naby Keita and James Milner also leave the club, with Liverpool bringing in four new midfielders during the summer window.
Szoboszlai has been one of the standout stars of Jurgen Klopp’s new-look side, so far this season. Oxlade-Chamberlain is still keeping a close eye on his former team and has been particularly impressed with Szoboszlai, who is excelling in the number eight position that the Besiktas man used to call his own.

“I've really enjoyed watching Dominik Szoboszlai,” Oxlade-Chamberlain told Sky Sports. “He's sort of taken over from my sort of role and I'm really impressed with how good of a player he is and that he plays the game, how I sort of always want to play the game.
“I think he's got so much ability, physicality and just his character as a player. I think he's just what we needed in there. He's been really, really good.”
The former England international revealed that he has been keeping in touch with Trent Alexander-Arnold, who told him that Szoboszlai has outshone one of Oxlade-Chamberlain’s key attributes in training.
“Trent tells me a lot how good he is as well. Trent says his shots are better than mine,” he added. “He's got everything. I know what the other guys that I've played with are capable of so it was more interesting to see the new lads come in, what they can do. I've enjoyed watching him.”
Meanwhile, Oxlade-Chamberlain has been enjoying something of a renaissance with Besiktas after a frustrating end to his Liverpool career. He has made 12 league appearances and recorded four goal contributions, including an impressive solo run and finish against Ankaragucu at the weekend.
