Kenny Miller urges radical Rangers transfer window as pundit swaps Clement tinkering for January cull

The former striker doesn't hold the same opinion as Clement when it comes to what Rangers should do.

Kenny Miller has said Rangers MUST perform extensive squad surgery this January, despite Philippe Clement's stance.

The Belgian boss isn't expecting to make wholesale changes to his side this winter window after arriving to replace Michael Beale in October. His predecessor oversaw a calamitous summer recruitment drive that has far more misses than hits on current showing, but confirmed on Tuesday ahead of the club's AGM no major makeover will be in order.

Club hero Miller isn't on board with this. He believes Clement has to get rid of some deadwood alongside a couple of quality additions. Miller told Clyde 1 after fellow pundit Gordon Dalziel suggested he didn't think there would be a great deal of January movement: "I think there needs to be. I think the squad needs to be brought down a little bit. There needs to be some guys moved out whether that is on loan or permanently. There has to be at least a couple that come and I think there will be.

"You can play it down going into it. Everybody plays it cagey at this time as it's tough to get the player in. Sometimes you are getting players who might not be playing for other teams.

"It can be a difficult window. I think the way I think he wants to play, he needs wingers. I think he has a lot of these guys who can play inside. Sima has done decent enough but he is still a young player who has still not had a lot of football."

Clement said on Tuesday: "Reshaping it in January is much more difficult than in the summer, that's the reality in football with every club so I'm realistic about that. The idea is to do something but it will not be a lot of things, it needs to be the right things."
