Rangers are reportedly keeping tabs on Mason Holgate's situation at Southampton as the defender looks set to return to Everton next month.

Philippe Clement is set for a busy January window as he looks to put his own stamp on the Ibrox squad after an unbeaten start to life at the club - and the gap at the top of the Scottish Premiership with Celtic narrowing. It has now been claimed that Rangers are "waiting in the wings" to take Holgate north of the border with Sean Dyche set to end the 27-year-old's loan spell on the south coast.

The centre-back has struggled for regular game time in the English Championship under Russell Martin after making the move to St Mary's on loan in the summer. The England under-21 cap has not made an appearance for the Saints since November 11 and The Sun claim that the Toffees are set to trigger a recall clause.

Holgate will likely be moved out on loan again with the Light Blues said to be interested in a temporary deal. Both Middlesbrough and Watford are also noted as interested parties.

Elsewhere, details have emerged on Alfredo Morelos' Santos contract as he prepares to become a free agent once again after leaving Ibrox in the summer. The Brazilian heavyweights suffered the first relegation in their 111-year history with the 27-year-old only managing three appearances during an injury-plagued spell at the club.

Some sections of the Gers support had called for the Colombian to be brought back to Ibrox following the injury to Danilo - but the punters may be put off by the mega-money pay packet he received at struggling Santos. The relegated side pressed the panic button to bring in the frontman, according to reports.

Brazilian outlet A8SE claim that Morelos was immediately made the highest paid player at the club - earning a massive £145,000 a week at the club. The club are set to trigger a release clause in the deal following their drop from the top flight.
