Richard Arnold officially leaves Man Utd as new Old Trafford era immediately starts

Richard Arnold is no longer listed as a director or a 'person with significant control' at Manchester United, having now officially left his role as the club's CEO

Richard Arnold has officially left Manchester United after 16 years as the club prepare to announce Sir Jim Ratcliffe 's investment deal.

Ratcliffe is close to completing his £1.3billion deal for 25 per cent of United, which will also see him take control of the sporting side of the business from the Glazers. The INEOS chief is expected to implement some major changes, having previously criticised the club for spending "dumb money" on transfers.

A number of United chiefs could lose their jobs as a result and Arnold, who replaced Ed Woodward as CEO in February 2022, is the first casualty. It was announced last month that he would be leaving the club and his departure is now official.

According to documents filed on Companies House, Arnold was removed as a director on December 8 and is no longer a 'person with significant control' at the club. United's general counsel Patrick Stewart has replaced Arnold on an interim basis.

"It has been an incredible privilege to serve this great football club for the past 16 years," Arnold said when his departure was announced last month. "Through highs and lows, the constant has been the dedication of our employees and fans.

"I would like to thank all of them for their loyalty and commitment, and wish everyone associated with the club the very best for the future." Stewart, meanwhile, is looking to stabilise the club until the off-field uncertainty surrounding Ratcliffe's investment is sorted.

"Together with my leadership team colleagues, my job will be to ensure that the club's foundations remain stable while we embrace changes that can make us stronger over the long term, on and off the pitch, and to support the search for a new permanent CEO," Stewart said.

Executive co-chairman Joel Glazer added: "I would like to thank Richard for his outstanding service to Manchester United over the past 16 years, and wish him all the best for his future endeavours.

"We are fortunate to be able to call on the deep knowledge and experience of Patrick Stewart to provide interim stability and continuity as we embark on a search for a new permanent CEO."

Cycling chief Sir Dave Brailsford is set for a big role in Ratcliffe's revamp, but former PSG boss Jean-Claude Blanc has been widely tipped to replace Arnold having left PSG to oversee the sporting side of INEOS in 2022.
