When asked directly about Dubravka, Howe, speaking at this pre-match press conference at St James' Park, said: "That's currently unclear."

Reacting to Dubravka, Anthony Gordon and Sean Longstaff not featuring in training, Howe said: "You can read into it whatever you want. We're two days after a game so we're trying to manage players. We'll see who's fit for tomorrow."

Former Liverpool keeper Karius has played in the Champions League at the highest level when keeping goal for the Reds against Real Madrid in 2018. But the occasion did not go well after he suffered a head injury and made a couple of errors.

Speaking about the game itself, Howe said: "I think we are very positive going into the game. It's got all the hallmarks of being a special game. All we can do is try and give our best performance, we will try everything.
