Nat Phillips could be in line for a Liverpool revival after Jurgen Klopp was blindsided by a defensive blow.

The big defender has not had his problems to seek since joining Celtic on loan in the summer window in attempt to get consistent game time under the 26-year-old's belt. Liverpool let the centre-half go on an initial six-month loan back when Brendan Rodgers was dealing with an injury crisis of his own but Phillips due to return to Merseyside in the new year unless the Hoops decide to open talks about extending it. He has managed just eight appearances for Rodgers' men and has been caught up in a few defensive mishaps, including an own goal in a defeat to Kilmarnock at the weekend.

The former Bournemouth defender has made less than 30 appearances for Klopp's Reds, but a season-ending injury to Joel Matip may appears to have forced the German boss in to a rethink. He already has former Celtic man Virgil Van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Ibrahima Konate all fit, while Jarell Quansah was given a chance to impress against Crystal Palace. But now The Mirror report that Klopp is considering recalling Phillips early with a view to using him as cover for the rest of December - and potentially the second half of the season.

It could be a similar tale at Aberdeen with youngster Rhys Williams, who partnered Phillips during the Reds Champions League campaign a few years ago when Matip, van Dijk and Gomez were struck by injuries. The 22-year-old hasn't managed a single game for Barry Robson's men on loan from the Reds and he could be set for a recall in the new year.

Williams, unlike Phillips, is supposed to see out a season-long loan in Scotland but may end up back on Merseyside as the January transfer window looms.
