Rangers news bulletin as Alfredo Morelos return door opened by agent while pitch to Mason Holgate made
The Colombian is on the lookout for a new club after his Santos contract was ripped up.
The agent of former Rangers star Alfredo Morelos has revealed that the striker is looking to return to Europe after a nightmare spell with Santos.
And that will only ramp up the speculation that a return to Ibrox for the frontman could be on the cards with Philippe Clement facing a massive injury headache as the January window fast approaches. Having managed just three appearances during an injury-hampered spell in Brazil, Santos have officially triggered Morelos' release clause and will leave the famous club after they were relegated for the first time in their 111-year history last week.
But with the Danilo set for a lengthy injury lay-off while summer recruits Sam Lammers and Cyriel Dessers struggle to find form, the prospect of a return for the Colombian to the Scottish Premiership has been floated by some sections of the Rangers support just six months after he was released by the club. And agent Martin Camagno left the door open as he lifted the lid on the 27-year-old's next move.
However, having already pitched Morelos with a move to Zenit St Petersburg, Camagno continued to launch a charm offensive of Russian Premier League sides. Speaking to Match following Morelos' release, he said: "Plans for the winter - a return to Europe. A move to Russia would be absolutely wonderful."
Ryan Kent is another former Gers star at a career crossroads having struggled at Fenerbahce. Hull City have been touted as a potential destination for the winger - and boss Liam Rosenior has had his say on a potential deal.
Speaking ahead of tonight's trip to Middlesbrough, he said: "For me I don’t comment on other players at other clubs. I focus on the work we do here. I focus on the bodies I have in the squad. We have a plan and we know what we want. I’ve never done it and I won’t start now – speaking about individual players at other clubs.”
Elsewhere, Mason Holgate has been touted with a loan move to Ibrox with the Everton defender set to be recalled from a temporary spell at Southampton. Middlesborough and Watford have been touted as interested parties, but pundit Carlton Palmer reckons Clement's men may have the edge in the signing race for the 27-year-old. The former Sheffield Wednesday star gave his sales pitch for a move to north when speaking to FLW: "Holgate has struggled to secure first-team football at St Mary’s – he’s made just five appearances and not performed to his true potential.
“Middlesbrough are in urgent need of defensive cover and Holgate at 27 has got Premier League experience. Wherever he goes, Everton will want to see him playing, but the opportunity to join Glasgow Rangers might prove too big a draw than Middlesbrough or Watford.”
