After confirming top spot in Group E, Liverpool are expected to field a much-changed starting XI when they visit Union St. Gilloise in the Europa League on Thursday evening.

A 4-0 win over LASK in in their last Europa League outing saw the Reds confirm a first-placed finish with a game to spare, after picking up 12 points in their first five matches. Liverpool's final group game is a trip to Belgium to take on Union SG, and wholesale changes are expected to be made by manager Jurgen Klopp

With big Premier League encounters against Manchester United and Arsenal approaching, it would be silly for the Reds to risk injuries to any of their key players on Thursday evening. So, how could Liverpool fare against Union SG? Let's take a look.

We predict that Liverpool could line up in a 4-3-3 formation, with their line-up as follows: Kelleher; Bradley, Gomez, Quansah, Chambers; McConnell, Elliott, Jones; Doak, Gakpo, Diaz.

Despite starting a second-string XI, Liverpool were in control for the opening stages, with the experience of Cody Gakpo leading their attack. The Dutchman as unlucky not to put his side ahead thanks to some great saves in the opening 20 minutes. But the Reds' pressure paid off when they took the lead 29 minutes in.

Gakpo was heavily involved again, with his shot being tipped behind for a corner after some nice footwork. The striker took the resulting set-piece and Joe Gomez managed to glance the ball into the far corner to make it 1-0 with his first-ever Liverpool goal.

Just three minutes later, Gakpo finally got his goal from the penalty spot after Ben Doak was hacked down inside the box, sending the home goalkeeper the wrong way and finding the bottom left corner. But the domination continued, and just before the break, the Reds grabbed a third.

Doak and Gakpo linked up well down the left before the Scotsman beat his man for pace to burst into the box. After cutting back, Doak laid the ball into the path of Curtis Jones just outside the box, and his first-time strike took a deflection off a defender to wrong-foot the Union keeper and find the back of the net.

With a comfortable lead, Liverpool took their foot off the gas in the second half, allowing the hosts to see more of the ball. And Union pulled a goal back in the 64th minute when defender Christian Burgess beat Luke Chambers at the back post to head home from a corner. However, the Belgian side couldn't muster a comeback as the Reds picked up another win in Europe.
