Jamie Carragher highlights one concern over Man City starlet Micah Hamilton after debut

Manchester City academy graduate Micah Hamilton was the star of the show on Wednesday night but Jamie Carragher did notice one thing he feels the 20-year-old should stamp out of his game

Micah Hamilton was the talk of the town after his stellar Manchester City debut was capped off with a goal, but Jamie Carragher still had one lighthearted concern.

Hamilton made his full senior debut for the club during their 3-2 win over Crvena Zvezda on matchday six of the Champions League group stage and netted City's opener. The academy graduate took just 19 minutes to get his name on the scoresheet with a delightful finish that left the goalkeeper with very little chance.

The victory maintained City's 100 percent record in the competition so far this term with Pep Guardiola's men sealing their route to the knockout rounds with six wins from six. After the game, Carragher had plenty to say about Hamilton.

"There was a lot to admire. He reminds us of this man on our left [Micah Richards]. His performance was fantastic, the interview was fantastic." However, Carragher did make clear there was one aspect of Hamilton's performance he wasn't as keen on.

"But there was one thing I didn't like tonight and he's got to get it out of his game," he said, while talking over a replay of Hamilton going to ground inside the penalty area after minimal contact. "That is a horrific, horrendous, dive - it's cheating."

Richards, a fellow City academy graduate, leapt to Hamilton's defence, but Carragher was having none of it. "'No it's not right, he flops to the floor it's very theatric and we don't want to see it."

After a bewildered Richards asked: "are you being serious?" Carragher replied: "Of course I'm being serious; that message he'll thank me for in a few years." The Liverpool legend was not done there, pulling up a hilarious clip of Richards performing an even more theatrical dive during his playing days.

"He obviously looks up to you, so where do you think he got it from? Where do you think he learnt it from Micah Richards?", the clip sparked laughter from all three of the NBC pundits in Carragher, Richards and Thierry Henry, who can be heard asking the ex-City man: "What are you doing?" as Richards' dive is shown from all angles.

During his own post-match media duties, Hamilton opted to focus on his first goal rather than alleged dive. The 20-year-old explained: "I don’t even know how to put it into words to be honest – it’s all surreal. The game obviously; the goal, everyone has seen that, I didn’t even know what to do."
