Ange puts 3 Celtic stars in exclusive 'influence' club as Greg Taylor used as Tottenham success template
The defender might be coming under scrutiny but he leads two other stars in the former gaffer's good graces.
Ange Postecoglou is using Greg Taylor as an example to his Tottenham full-backs of what success in that position looks like.
The jury is out on the Scotland international within the Celtic fan base as some debate whether he is worthy of being their first choice left-back. But his former boss has left no doubts over what he thinks of him in a glowing recommendation of his skills south of the border.
Destiny Udogie and Pedro Porro are being asked to play inverted like Taylor was in his two seasons working with the Spurs manager at Celtic. And speaking at his press conference ahead of playing Nottingham Forest, Taylor was name dropped when Postecoglou was asked if he has had a full-back that good at passing and as a playmaker before. He responded: "Yeah, yeah, most of the guys, most of the teams I've had, whether it was at Celtic where Greg Taylor was very influential.
"Anthony Ralston, Alistair Johnston and when I was at Yokohama, Ken Matsubara. I could go on. They were all very influential and it's part of the way we play, and they all hugged me after a goal."
Postecoglou is also keen to get Tottenham back into the Champions League group stage after watching more continental action unfold midweek. He added: "What do you reckon mate? Do you reckon I say let's see what's on tele tonight, the Champions League? Yeah I'll have a look at that. Yeah I do follow football a fair bit.' No, I watched it all and European football in general, it is where you want to be.
"You want to be involved in those games, you want your football club involved and not just because it is European football. It is the unique challenges it brings because you are playing in different countries, different conditions, different styles of football so all those kind of things you enjoy. It is definitely something this football club should be a part of, absolutely.
"Not being part of it this year has hurt us because it gives you a chance to develop your squad even quicker with the experiences they have and the ability to give more game time to your squad. So it's hurt us this year, but hopefully we're back in it next year and making an impact."
