Fulham's Raul Jimenez has been slammed for his red card tackle against Newcastle, which has been compared to 'an awful kung-fu kick'.
Jimenez was initially booked for the challenge on Sean Longstaff before a VAR check led to the Mexican striker being given his marching orders at St James' Park, in a match the visitors went on to lose 3-0.
The Fulham player missed Longstaff with his foot but looked out of control as his backside appeared to connect with the Newcastle player's face.
On Soccer Saturday, Sky Sports presenter Simon Thomas likened the tackle to 'an awful kung-fu kick'.
Mail Sport's man at the ground Craig Hope wrote on X: 'Seen a replay... that has to be a red card.'

When referee Sam Barrott upgraded the card, Hope added: 'And so it is... Raul Jimenez sent off for serious foul play. He was out of control & landed his airborne backside in the face of Sean Longstaff.'
Fans on social media were similarly quick to slam the Mexican for the dangerous tackle. One claimed it was 'Stupid stupid stupid' by Jimenez, with a second adding: 'Not sure how Raul Jimenez can argue that one lol.'
Another user on X, formerly known as Twitter, wrote: 'Jimenez kicked out at AND threw his body at Longstaff. Wild.'
'Incredibly stupid and dangerous by Jiménez,' wrote another, before adding it was a 'definite red card'.
Another noted: 'Raul Jimenez! Very reckless! A red card all day! Too careless.'

While there were no first-half goals at St James' Park, Lewis Miley, Miguel Almiron and Dan Burn were able to give Newcastle a 3-0 Premier League victory over Fulham, as the Magpies look to overcome the disappointment of their European exit in midweek.
Newcastle's next outing is a trip to Fulham's West London rivals Chelsea in the League Cup on Tuesday night, the same night the Cottagers travel to Everton for their Carabao Cup quarter-final.
