Former Aston Villa striker Wesley has appeared to aim a dig at Brentford defender Ben Mee following his red card in the Premier League clash on Sunday.

The centre-back was shown a straight red card after a VAR review for a dangerous tackle on Leon Bailey. The Bees were 1-0 up at the time, going into the final 20 minutes of the match.

Villa were able to take advantage of the numerical difference. Goals from Alex Moreno and Ollie Watkins turned the game on its head, earning Villa their third straight win and taking them up to second place in the Premier League ahead of Liverpool’s clash against Manchester United.

The game ended by tempers boiling over. Boubacar Kamara was shown a straight red card in the seventh minute of added time. Unai Emery has admitted that his player’s behaviour should have been better at the end of the match .

After full-time, Wesley, who was in action for Stoke City earlier in the day, took to social media to give his reaction. The striker simply wrote “UTV” along with a laughing and praising hands emoji.

It’s likely that the striker was aiming his message towards Mee following his red card. The Brentford defender was the player whose tackle caused a long-term injury for the then-Villa man on New Year’s Day in 2020.

The cruciate ligament injury kept Wesley out for over a year. He eventually made his comeback in April 2021, but he never kicked on in his Villa career and left the club permanently this summer after a number of loan spells away.
