James Garner fires Everton warning to Man City as supporters' wish revealed

James Garner has been speaking ahead of Everton's Premier League game against Man City

James Garner has warned Manchester City that his Everton team-mates are not afraid of anyone and believes his side is playing in a unique way.

The Blues fell to a 2-1 loss against Tottenham Hotspur in north London on Saturday afternoon as their four-match Premier League winning run came to an end. Richarlison and Son Heung-min fired Ange Postecoglou’s side ahead before Andre Gomes pulled a goal back in the second-half.

Next up for Sean Dyche’s side is a home game against City on Wednesday night. Pep Guardiola’s side added a fifth trophy to the cabinet for 2023 with a 4-0 win over Fluminense in the final of the FIFA Club World Cup on Friday night.

Reflecting on the defeat to Spurs, Garner told evertontv: “I think in the first 15 minutes, they started fast, and we started slowly.

“They scored two goals, and from then, it’s quite hard to come back from. But from the second goal, we looked like the better side.

“We were the only ones who looked like scoring. We’re very disappointed that we didn’t come away with anything, because I think we deserved to.

“We’re not afraid of anyone at the moment. We see ourselves beating pretty much anyone we play.

“Our style of play is very unique and different to, I’d say, anyone in the league. Teams we’re facing this year are finding it tough to play against us.

“You saw it today. Tottenham are one of the best in the league. They’re up there for a reason and we just came to their place and completely dominated the game. We didn’t get the result we wanted to, but there are a lot of positives to take.”

Goodison will once again be full on Wednesday night, and Garner said on the support his side receives: “The fans are amazing.

“We were beaten today, and they were singing until the very end and pushing us on. That helps.

“Even after the final whistle, they’re clapping, cheering, chanting, and I’m just hoping they’re seeing a new and improved team; a new and improved Everton. We just need to rest up now and go again on the 27th.”
