Ange Postecoglou has made two changes to his Tottenham Hotspur team as they welcome Burnley in the FA Cup third round on Friday night.
Spurs have now not won the famous old cup competition in 33 years and in recent years have frustrated their fans with much-changed teams going out in earlier rounds, particularly against clubs from the Championship. Now they host promoted Burnley at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and Postecoglou has made a couple of enforced changes.
Postecoglou has Dejan Kulusevski back from suspension but captain Son Heung-min has left for the Asian Cup and Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr for the Africa Cup of Nations. Centre-back Micky van de Ven has trained for three days this week after returning from his hamstring injury but the Spurs boss said he was going to be cautious with the young Dutchman so he only makes the bench.
Ryan Sessegnon is alongside him on the bench and back in a matchday squad for Spurs for the first time in almost 11 months, since the home Premier League match against Manchester City on February 2 last year.
Rodrigo Bentancur is the captain in the absence of Son. Eric Dier, who has been linked with a move to Bayern Munich, is not involved in the squad.
Alejo Veliz is also on the injured list for a couple of months with his knee injury but young striker Dane Scarlett is back and available after his loan at Ipswich ended prematurely. Sergio Reguilon and Djed Spence have also returned from their loans at Manchester United and Leeds respectively but if Postecoglou uses either of them then they cannot move to another club in the January transfer window as they cannot play for three clubs in a year.
Here is the Tottenham team Australian has selected:
Vicario; Porro, Emerson, Davies, Udogie; Skipp, Bentancur, Lo Celso; Kulusevski, Richarlison, Johnson. Subs: Forster, Dorrington, Phillips, Van de Ven, Hojbjerg, Gil, Donley, Scarlett.
