Cardiff City have made "the worst start ever" to an FA Cup match after missing two penalties in three minutes.

The Bluebirds were taking on fellow Championship side Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough and found themselves 1-0 down after just two minutes, with Josh Windass netting the goal. But the visitors reacted strongly and earned themselves a spot-kick with four minutes on the clock.

Ryan Wintle's effort was saved by Wednesday keeper Cameron Dawson, but Cardiff were given a second bite at the cherry three minutes later after another foul in the box. Sheepishly, Wintle let team-mate Callum Robinson take it, but Dawson saved for a second time to keep the score at 1-0.

Even Wednesday supporters were shocked. One posted on X: "Even Calamity Cam is having a stormer. What is going on?" Another said: "Dawson playing a blinder and getting clapped down the tunnel at half time isn't what I was expecting tonight."

It went from bad to worse later in the half, with Wednesday punishing Cardiff's misses by scoring twice to all but book their place in the FA Cup fourth round. Cardiff midfielder Romaine Sawyers accidentally headed the ball into his own net from a corner and Liam Palmer made it 3-0 just seconds later with a thunderous volley from 25-yards out.

Victory for Wednesday will be immensely-appreciated given their dire league situation. They're currently 22nd in the Championship and three points from safety after losing 16 of their 26 league games so far.

Cardiff on the other hand are pushing for a play-off spot, though poor form over the past couple of months has seen them drop to ninth in the table.
