Callum Davidson in shock Queen's Park talks as St Johnstone hero the favourite for Hampden manager hotseat

Davidson is the odds-on favourite to take over at Hampden as the club target an ambitious swoop for the St Johnstone hero.

Callum Davidson is in talks over a shock return to management with Queen’s Park.


The St Johnstone cup double-winning boss has held positive discussions with the Championship side in recent days and those remain on-going. The 47-year-old looks odds-on to be named as the Spiders’ next manager.


Queens have been on the lookout for a new boss since they sacked Robin Veldman in December. Davidson has been out of football since he left St Johnstone last season. He took the McDiarmid Park job in 2020 and led them to an unprecedented Scottish and League Cup double, but then lost several key players and it became more of a fight to keep the Saints in the top-flight. He had the chance to return to the Premiership with Dundee. and the former Scotland international has also come close with a couple of opportunities in England.

Queen’s got off the bottom of the Championship with their Friday night win over Dunfermline. Dutchman Paul Nuijten has been left in temporary charge of first-team affairs.

The Hampden club is set for a radical revamp at the top of the club. Director of football Marian Beuker left for Ajax and chief executive Leeann Dempster stepped down this weekend.

Queen’s Park had wanted to initially speak to former Fleetwood boss Scott Brown and Charlie Mulgrew but have now decided to go down the more experienced route.
