Queen’s Park set to appoint former Premiership boss in stunning coup for Championship outfit

There's been a lot of change at Queen's Park after another huge exit was confirmed this weekend

CALLUM DAVIDSON is poised to become Queen's Park's new  manager.

The ex-St Johnstone boss has been lined up as Robin Veldman’s replacement, following the Dutchman’s sacking last year.

Davidson has been out of work since leaving Saints last spring after three years in charge at McDiarmid Park.

The 47-year-old masterminded their cup double-winning season in 2021, beating Livingston to the Viaplay Cup final and then Hibs in the Scottish Cup

Davidson also has European experience from clashes with Galatasaray and LASK.

The former Scotland international turned down Premiership Dundee in May after being offered the chance to replace Gary Bowyer.

But Davidson now feels ready to return to management after a nine-month break and has been sold on the vision Queen's Park have for the future.

His first job will be to steer the Spiders away from the Championship relegation zone.

Their win over Dunfermline on Friday night lifted them off the foot of the table, and they remain within touching distance of Ayr United and Inverness.

Davidson’s appointment is on track to be confirmed early next week, with his first game coming against leaders Raith Rovers at Starks Park on Saturday.

Earlier this weekend, it was confirmed Leanne Dempster was standing down as Queen's Park chief executive after three years in the role.

SunSport understands the respected Dempster recently underwent surgery following a cancer diagnosis and wants to focus more on her recovery.

In a statement, she said: “It’s been an intense three years, steering the club forward since turning professional.

“I am delighted the club’s academy is now operating at Elite level, which will nurture young talent towards the first team.

“The community side of the club has also grown tremendously.

“I would like to thank all those who have given me great support during my time at the club, directors, staff and a dedicated group of volunteers who have all combined to push the club forward.

“Now feels the right time for me to step away. I wish everyone connected with Queen’s Park all the best.”
