Beckenbauer became one of the greatest footballers of all time, also getting his hands on the Bundesliga title during his playing days and as Bayern boss.

Former Tottenham forward Kane, now at the German club, has since paid tribute to the former defender.

He said: "In my time at the club so far it's clear what he meant to Bayern and to football in this country. My thoughts are with his family and friends."

Kane has managed 21 goals in 15 games since joining the Bundesliga champions from Spurs in the summer.

Germany legend Didi Hamman has since paid tribute to Beckenbauer when asked what he was like to play under, having done so for Bayern Munich in 1996.

He told talkSPORT Breakfast: "He was gracious, charming and charismatic.

"Very kind and big-hearted, and the thing with him was when he came into the room, it froze because everybody looked up to him.

"Everybody was in awe of him, and I was fortunate enough to have him.

"We went on a training camp one January to Tenerife, and he said 'stay with us', as I played in the second team since then.

"Made my debut in 1994 under him, and obviously forever grateful to him. When he said something everybody took it on board.

"He did not need to say it twice or three times, everybody did it the first time and I think that is the impact he has had on players and people.

"He was a tremendous player and the biggest ambassador we have had."

Thomas Tuchel's side are expected to pay tribute to Beckenbauer in their upcoming fixture against Hoffenheim at the weekend.
