Madcap 'Batshuayi for Kyogo' Celtic transfer theory leaves live radio studio in stitches

Kyogo hasn't hit the heights this season and one Celtic fan has apparently seen enough.

Simon Donnelly and Marvin Bartley

Kyogo might not be firing on all cylinders like he has in the past - but are there Celtic fans who would swap him for another striker out there? One like Michy Batshuayi...?

You'd think that would be a universal 'no,' but one radio caller left Simon Donnelly and Marvin Bartley in stitches with a madcap theory on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard. Kyogo's stunner against Rangers got the Hoops on their way to a massive derby win before the international break and it was a big moment for the Japan star in a season where, relatively, he's had few. He has ten goals for the season, eight in the league, and whle those numbers aren't to be snuffed at, his strike rate is down dramatically on his first two seasons at Parkhead.

Despite that, Brendan Rodgers certainly won't be keen to lose his talismanic frontman, but one Celtic fan has apparently seen enough. Kenny, from Balfron, rung up Gordon Duncan on the popular phone-in to call for him to be SOLD - for as little as £7m. Much to the skepticism of the studio, the caller said: "I think that Kyogo should go out in the summer. Definitely. I think there's better players in the market, and we can get at least £7m for Kyogo at this point.

"£7m is the lowest I would demand. There's definitely better on the market that we can get in. Kyogo scores high quality goals but we need high numbers and he's not been hitting the numbers he has in previous seasons."

Former Celtic striker Donnelly cut in there to point to his record his first two seasons - where he rattled off 54 goals across 83 games - has probably earned him the benefit of the doubt. And host Duncan then pointed to recent flop strikers like Albian Ajeti who have arrived for big fees and failed to hit the ground running.

So why is Kenny so confident they could easily replace Kyogo? One man: Michy Batshuayi.

He went on: "I think Celtic are definitely a bigger club than Rangers at this point. I've heard Rangers might bring in Batshuayi. If they're getting that attraction, we can definitely get better than that."

Queen of the South boss Bartley had heard enough there though as he broke into a fit of laughter trying to make his next point. "That's shocked me. I'm nearly speechless for the first time in my life," he said, before laughing: "Kyogo for Batshuayi? No chance, that just can't happen."
