Leeds boss wants permanent transfer for Tottenham star Joe Rodon - but won't panic

Daniel Farke is refusing to panic about Leeds' situation in the transfer window as he eyes a permanent switch for Tottenham's Joe Rodon who is currently on loan at Elland Road

Leeds boss Daniel Farke wants to sign Tottenham’s Joe Rodon on a permanent deal but insists it’s not urgent - and won’t “panic” about their transfer window situation.

Wales centre-half Rodon, 26, has become an integral part of the Championship club’s promotion push since arriving on a season-long loan in the summer.

Reports have stated Leeds are keen to make it permanent this month but, ahead of tomorrow’s visit of Preston, Farke maintains it’s not a pressing matter.

On the back of three successive 3-0 wins, the German said: “Behind the scenes we're working [on a deal], there's no doubt.

"We're more than happy with Joe. His performances are developing. You see him growing more and more into a leader role. You see how much it means to him to wear this white shirt and defend this white shirt in games. I think he's happy to be here, happy to be an important part. He was crucial to our really good performances and development. We would like him to stay for a bit longer but it's not an urgent topic.”

Rodon joined Spurs from Swansea in an £11m deal three years ago but struggled to nail down a spot and spent last season on loan at Rennes.

Farke added: "The next 12 days we have a few other things to concentrate on and then it will be possible to focus and plan for the summer.

"Joe is in our plans but he's not our player yet. We're a bit depending on what the other parties think about this topic. We'll definitely try behind the scenes to do our stuff. You know how much I like and value Joe and his importance for the team."

Leeds want to strengthen their full-back area after loanee Djed Spence went back to Spurs and Luke Ayling was loaned to Middlesbrough.

But on the lack of any incoming signings so far, Farke maintained: “I’m not too concerned as in the last few weeks it’s given a chance for some other players to step up who were not much involved at the beginning of the season like Junior Firpo and Illia Gruev.

“We have options to deal with the situation. I won’t lie: I know a few additions especially in defence would be beneficial. But we won’t just do some business out of panic reasons with crazy money. It has to be right for us.”
