James Scott to St Mirren transfer deal accelerates as Stephen Robinson set to reunite with Exeter striker

The striker worked with the Buddies boss at Motherwell and the duo are set to reunite in Paisley.

St Mirren are closing in on a deal to land James Scott.

The Buddies are looking to seal a loan to take the striker from Exeter City for the rest of the season. The Paisley side hope to finalise a deal ahead of the weekend clash with Rangers. St Mirren boss Stephen Robinson has previously worked with Scott at Motherwell and that looks to be a deciding factor. Several other Premiership rivals were also interested but Robinson’s relationship with the player has put him in pole position.

Scott left Motherwell for Hull in 2020. He also had a loan spell at Hibernian before he went to Exeter last year. St Mirren have already signed defender Elvis Bwomono on freedom of contract and midfielder Hyeokkyu Kwon from Celtic. The move could open the door for Exeter to return to Scotland to land Joel Nouble from Livingston. Exiles boss Gary Caldwell is keen to land the big striker.
