Javier Hernandez has thanked his 'other family' Manchester United and Sir Alex Ferguson for their kind words after he rejoined his former club Chivas this week.

United signed Chicharito from the Mexican club in 2010 and the forward made his first appearance in a pre-season clash against Chivas where he had earlier featured for the Central American club in the first half. During his five years in Manchester, the now 35-year-old became a cult hero with his tenacity up front earning him the affection of the home faithful.

Hernandez made 157 appearances for United scoring 59 goals before leaving permanently in 2015 to join Bayer Leverkusen. As news spread on Wednesday regarding the forward's departure from LA Galaxy, Ferguson took the time to send his old player a message.

In a video posted to social media by United, Ferguson said: "Chicharito! It's your old boss here.

"First of all, I want to congratulate you on your return to your old club back in Mexico, where it all started. Where I found you, signed you, and you were a great, fantastic player for us.

"You've had a great career. I think now, when you go back to your old club, you have got an opportunity to add your experience and give your experience to all the players there.

"So, regards to your family, have a great time, and more goals to come! All the best."

This message from the legendary United boss clearly touched Hernandez as he responded to the message on Twitter. He posted: "Boss, there’s no words to describe how much you mean to me.

"Being able to say I was one of your players is one of my biggest achievements. THANK YOU!

"And to my other family Manchester United thank you for letting me be part of your history. Will love you forever. Once a red always a red."
