Michael Stewart extinguishes Celtic hype over Paulo Bernardo as he reels off whopping list of missing traits
The BBC pundit isn't buying the hype over the 22-year-old and delivered a brutal takedown.
Unimpressed Michael Stewart believes clamour over recent displays of Celtic loan star Paulo Bernardo are overblown.
The BBC pundit – watching the on-loan Benfica star from the commentary box during the 1-0 win over Ross County – isn't buying the hype over the 22-year-old who could cost the Premiership champions a fee in the region of £6million if they decide to make his loan permanent. The former Hearts and Hibs man isn't seeing what others are and believes the man who become a key contributor has ways to go in Glasgow.
Speaking on Sportsound, he said: "Paulo Bernardo's gone off. I've got to be honest, a lot has been made about him, settling in, looking really good. He doesn't do enough for me, he doesn't do enough. He doesn't look like he is athletic, he doesn't get involved in the game a lot. He has scored a few recently, but I am not seeing it.
And Stewart doubled down after the final whistle and claimed he doesn't believe Bernardo is a perfect fit for the way boss Brendan Rodgers wants to play. He added: "I am surprised Brendan Rodgers is giving him so much game time. He doesn't strike me as a Brendan Rodgers type. He doesn't have loads of energy. He doesn't look like he has an eye for a pass, I couldn't really tell you what his main attributes are in the game.
"By no means is he is a bad player but I don't look at him and think 'he's a standout, he's a top performer'. I don't really see what he brings to the team."
