Rangers set to welcome another Colombia star as Light Blues close in on Oscar Cortes

RANGERS were last night closing in on a deal for Colombian star Oscar Cortes.

The 20-year-old could join Gers on loan, with the Ibrox club retaining an option to buy in the summer.

Corters was left out of the Lens side that defeated Toulouse yesterday.

But SunSport understands NO deal has been struck with Philippe Clement’s side, with the player yet to travel to Glasgow for talks.

It’s clear, however, the Belgian boss is keen to add the winger before the close of Thursday’s transfer window.

Cortes would become Gers’ third January signing after Fabio Silva and Mohamed Diamonde, while Brazilian full-back Jefte has also been linked.

Cortes - primarily a right winger - would help fill the void left by Abdallah Sima who is expected to be sidelined for up to three months.

Cortes has managed a goal and an assist in just four Ligue 1 appearances for Lens.

He was ineligible for their Champions League campaign, playing instead for Lens B in the French third tier.

Cortes made his full international debut in the summer and more recently has starred for Colombia’s under-23 side, playing Olympic qualifiers against Ecuador and Brazil.

Lens shelled out almost £4 million to bring him from Millonarios, with the player now set for a move to Scotland.

Another South American football expert, Nathan Joyes, wrote on X/Twitter: “Lens’ Oscar Cortes reportedly on his way to #RangersFC.

“Limited minutes in France, but plenty to like from his time at Millonarios.

“Direct, huge stride, good with his feet and has an eye for goal. Hopefully he settles in Scotland.”

Cortes could be one of a few late incomings at Ibrox before the transfer window closes later this week.

The Light Blues are also reportedly closing in on a move for Brazilian defender Jefte.

Philippe Clement also told fans it could be a "busy" end to the transfer window at Ibrox.
