Antony leaves Man Utd fans raging for ‘watching the game’ for Newport’s equaliser
Manchester United supporters are blaming Antony for Newport County's second goal in their FA Cup fourth round clash in south Wales, and some even want him sold because of it
Manchester United fans are at the end of their tether with Antony, despite him grabbing a goal in their 4-2 win over Newport County.
The Red Devils successfully forged a path into the FA Cup fifth round, though did so in unconvincing fashion after spending much of the tie either looking for a winner or protecting a one-goal lead. Bruno Fernandes put them ahead on eight minutes before Kobbie Mainoo made it two shortly after, but League Two Newport clawed their way back into the match with goals either side of half-time.
Their first, a magnificent 25-yard belter from Bryn Morris, looked unpreventable, but the same couldn't be said of Newport's equaliser. A ball-watching Antony lost his marker, Newport's Adam Lewis, and gawked as the left-back fizzed the ball into the box for Will Evans to stab home. Worse still, it was Antony's failed bicycle kick which sparked Newport's counter attack.

Enraged, United fans leaped onto the social media to vent their anger. One posted: "Antony caught watching. Sell him." Another said: "Antony allowed that cross. That's so poor from him."
A third fumed: "Dalot and Antony down the right is a nightmare. Just waiting to happen. Two lazy casual players," while a fourth barked: "Antony napping for that goal. Seriously what he do other than frustrate?"

The Brazilian somewhat made amends 20 minutes later by restoring United's lead, tapping home from close-range after Luke Shaw's curling shot hit the post and bounced into his path. A medical emergency in the crowd briefly stopped play towards the end of the second period, but after it resumed Rasmus Hojlund sealed victory by netting United's fourth.
The win, which is only United's third in all competitions since the end of November, has secured them a fifth round clash against either Bristol City or Nottingham Forest.
Antony, who arrived from Ajax for an eye-watering £85million, has downright failed to justify his price-tag during a largely uneventful 18-month stint at Old Trafford. The 23-year-old has nine goals in 67 games, though his goal this afternoon was his first of the current campaign.
