Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe has labelled reports linking Jacob Ramsey with a move to Tyneside as "incorrect".

The Athletic claim Newcastle are one of several clubs considering a move for Aston Villa's Ramsey while Villa are under pressure to raise funds to comply with Profit and Sustainability Rules come the summer. Tottenham Hotspur and Bayern Munich are also said to be interested in the 22-year-old.

Ramsey is valued by Villa in excess of £50million, which would go some way to relieving any concerns over their ability to meet PSR in the coming months. Newcastle have already admitted they will need to raise funds to comply with PSR, therefore any move for Ramsey would have to follow a big-money sale.

Villa have so far sold one player this month, which was Finn Azaz. He was recalled from his loan spell at Plymouth before being sold to Middlesbrough for £2.5million.

Boro forward Morgan Rogers is Villa's priority transfer target this month, but the Championship club have now rejected three bids for the 21-year-old. Villa's latest bid was £15million plus add-ons.

The January transfer window shuts on Thursday at 11pm and Villa will remain active up until the final hours as Monchi looks to bolster Emery's squad.
